"What we're doing with the Quantum Racing program is building a bank of information, creating a database of what works well and what doesn't," Hutchinson said. "It's kind of like a test pilot program."
One of Hutchinson's first decisions as Quantum executive was to hire Arnold based professional Allan Terhune as Global One Design Director. Terhune, who has won championships in such diverse dinghy classes as Lightning, Flying Scot, Thistle and Etchells, will determine what one design classes the company tries to infiltrate and how best to do so.
"We need to increase our one design presence across the board because it helps build brand image," Hutchinson said. "I think Allan is the ideal person to lead that effort because he's a hard working individual, an awesome sailor and has great people skills."
Hutchinson is excited about an upcoming project to develop a tuning guide for the new C 30. He and a crew of fellow Quantum pros will sail the boat in various conditions while testing different designs of sails. That will help Quantum build sails specific to the C 30 while providing the boat builder with a ready made tuning guide to give buyers.

"I asked Ed Reynolds about my job description and he told me not to change, to do exactly what I have been doing for the last 20 years," Hutchinson said. "This is an opportunity to apply all that I've learned as a pro sailor to helping Quantum create a product that is top of the line.".
